PDP Training

All petroleum road tanker drivers that load, transport and offload petroleum products from a terminal will need either a full PDP or Interim PDP as of 2014. This provides a level of confidence that the tanker driver has achieved and demonstrated a minimum level of competency.

Companies need to carry out PDP training four months prior to expiry date of all drivers’ ADR licenses.

Full PDP

The full PDP contains classroom training with a written exam (multiple choice), as well as practical assessments. Both need to be completed every five years. Both elements that make up the PDP must be taken and passed no more than four months before the ADR expiry date.

Interim PDP

The interim PDP contains classroom training covering key content from the Industry Training Standard. This involves a written exam (multiple choice) and also a practical assessment in the industry sub-sector which is relevant to your workload. This must be taken and passed no more than four months before the ADR expiry date.

Refresher Training

You are required to attend classroom training and practical assessments every year to maintain the validity of your PDP. These too, need to be taken within four months before the ADR expiry date.

e.g.: If your ADR is up for renewal as of 2014, or it is your first ADR you must complete full PDP training and assessment. If your ADR is up for renewal after 2014, you will need to take an interim PDP which will be valid up to your expiry date on your ADR card/certificate.
